Frequently Asked Questions

I have no experience in exercise and I am very unfit. Is this ok?
This is fine but it would be a good idea to check with your GP first especially if you have any contra-indications to exercise such as heart conditions, chronic pain or diabetes. Your GP is welcome to contact me to discuss your condition. If you are inexperienced, the training can be very light and easy-going at first until we will gradually build up your fitness levels.

Why should I choose In-Home Training?
There are a number of reasons that people prefer a trainer to come to them. Many people do not like the atmosphere in gyms, others find the whole process to be too much hassle while others are self-conscious about training in front of other people. For some, the commitment of joining a gym is not something they are comfortable with especially with the prices charged in gyms these days.

I don’t have any fitness equipment at my home. Is this ok?
This is not a problem as I specialise in bodyweight strength and conditioning. In fact, most of the equipment that people do have in their homes tends to be a waste of space anyway! Plus, I have various training tools that I can bring with me depending on your needs such as kettlebells, medicine balls, dumbbells and bands.

How often should I book a session?
Again, this depends on your goals, your personality and your lifestyle. Once or twice a week is standard but some people prefer to train less or more frequently if it suits them. I would advise however that you do not go longer than a fortnight without a session if you want to meet your goals.

How long does it take to get me where I want to be?
This depends largely on what you do outside the sessions and also on what your reasons for training are. Some people merely want to lose a few pounds for a holiday while others want a complete lifestyle overhaul. I firmly believe that anybody can reach any goal within one year if they are committed enough.

What happens when I have reached my goals?
It is up to you. Either we can set some new goals and begin working towards them or you can go away and do your own thing. I like to think that I can help you to become self-sufficient by teaching you some of the principles of health and fitness as we go along. One option that is popular is that I design you a program and then meet up with you every 3-6 months to assess your progress and provide a new schedule for you.

I would like to get a trainer but don’t want to be shouted at like you see on certain TV programmes. At the same time, I need someone to push me. What sort of trainer are you?
It all depends on what sort of client you are! Some people respond to being barked at while others prefer a much softer approach. I lean towards the latter but am happy to give you a rollicking if you need it!

So can I have a joint session with my friend/partner?
Absolutely. Having a training partner is an excellent way to make exercise more enjoyable and stimulating- especially if you challenge each other. Also, beginning an exercise regime with your partner will help you both to be more disciplined about your general health. Double sessions cost £10 more than the basic price.

There are loads of trainers out there, why should I pick you?
I have a particular passion for helping people lose fat- quickly. If this is a goal of yours then I can definitely help you! My other area of expertise is teaching you ways to exercise that involve no equipment and very little space- this means that you can workout anywhere and everywhere for the rest of your life! I also, focus on teaching you, rather than just instructing you, so that you can become self-sufficient.

I want to put on some serious muscle. Will you be able to help me do this?
In order to put on ‘serious’ muscle, you need to lift some ‘serious’ weight and this means dumbbells and barbells. Unfortunately, the downside to being a mobile trainer is that I cannot drag hundreds of pounds worth of plates around me all day. If you own any of this sort of equipment I am qualified to show you how to utilise it and if you are a member of a gym I can put you on a program that you can follow when you are there.

What if I need to cancel a session? Will I be charged?
As long as you can give me 24-hours notice, you will not be charged.
